Butterfly Kisses

The weekly photo challenge this week is “Kiss”. This is the first photo that came to mind, and it is of some personal significance. It happens to be my mom’s favorite animal (the Monarch Butterfly, in particular)!

I remember when I was a kid, we went to a “butterfly house” in Florida. Even with butterflies flitting in every direction, it was still a surprise when one landed on my ponytail and promptly got stuck! We had to help it out so it could resume its fluttering lifestyle.

  1. (1) That’s adorable (2) You can go see hordes of Monarch butterflies in Mexico, and the experience is high on my long list of future trips.

    • That is actually something that’s on my mom’s bucket list (if she were to write a bucket list). She’s definitley mentioned it before.

Maybe I’ll use my free Airtran flights to go here with my mom! According to my 30 seconds of research, the Monarch Biosphere Reserve is only 62 miles northwest of Mexico City, which is served by Airtran.

We’d have to plan it around her school schedule in the winter though, if we wanted to see it while the butterflies are wintering there.

      • I was thinking of going to the butterfly reserve from Mexico City too. It’s actually closer to Toluca, so if you can fly into Toluca, that’s even more convenient. Winter’s supposed to be the best time to go. Maybe I’ll go next President’s Day?

  2. Love the bright green color in this photo! And the story that goes along with it! http://ohtheplaceswesee.com

  3. What beautiful monarchs, Jen. My husband and I visited a butterfly sanctuary during our visit to Malaysia, and loved their colorful wings’ ‘fashion show.’ One of the yellow butterflies hitched a ride during most of our time there, only flitting off shortly before our departure. 🙂

  4. The colors are alive and attractive! 🙂

  5. There’s a beautiful little butterfly “sanctuary” in Santa Barbara, right by the beach. Very adorable and romantic. =)
