#19: Texarkana, Texas

I don’t remember if I’ve been to Texarkana. But I do have a post card from Texarkana, Texas. My cousin moved out to Texas from Massachusetts for college, and my aunt and uncle dropped her off in the midst of “brutal heat and wild cat thunderstorms!” My cousin then spent a while in New Mexico and Arizona, before deciding the South/Southwest wasn’t her thing, and she moved back to Massachusetts.

I’m pretty sure we drove through Texarkana on our way to or from San Antonio, but I was so little at the time (6 or 7 years old, I think), that I don’t remember much of that trip. I’m going to count it anyway for the purposes of the next part of this post!

So, because I don’t have much to say about Texarkana itself, I’m going to take a page out of Nicole’s book over at Barton Hollow and pull a Johnny Cash.

In bold are the places I’ve been:

“I was totin’ my pack along the dusty Winnemucca road
When along came a semi with a high and canvas covered load
If you’re going to Winnemucca, mack, with me you can ride
So I climbed into the cab and then I settled down inside
He asked me if I’d seen a road with so much dust and sand
And I said, “Listen, I’ve traveled every road in this here land”

I’ve been everywhere, man
I’ve been everywhere, man
Across the deserts bare, man
I’ve breathed the mountain air, man
Of travel I’ve had my share, man
