#11: Rain on Pirates Alley, New Orleans

This is a post card I picked up on my most recent trip to New Orleans. I bought it because I loved the photo, but after doing some research for this post I realize I’ve been there many times! The alley abuts the oldest cathedral in North America (St. Louis Cathedral); Nobel Laureate William Faulkner began his career as a novelist here; and my favorite restaurant in New Orleans (the Gumbo Shop) is right around the corner.

Legend surrounds Pirate Alley – it was a haven for pirates, it was a place where slaves were sold, it was where Andrew Jackson and Jean Lafitte met to plan the Battle of New Orleans – nobody knows for sure if any of these are true. But they make for a great story – and the picturesque street defininitely lives up to the hype!
